George is too unsure of himself.

I believe that George is very unsure of himself. It seems that he needs confirmation on everything he thinks for himself. Whenever he has an idea or thought, he shares it with someone and says "huh?" or "uh?" He does that as if he needs someone to say yes or no to make his ideas and thoughts complete. Why is that? I can see if he asked for an opinion every now and then, but after almost every statement he makes? It makes him seem very unsure and insecure.

I couldn't agree with you more 'Lele'. I think George is so unsure of himself because he wants to make sure that what he says pleases Hedda because for some reason he seems to be content with waiting on her hand and foot and being a push-over. Do u agree, uh?

yeah. i think the "uh" thing does show his insecurities that come along with having his prized possession, Hedda. And by being so insecure, he lets Hedda walk all over him, just to keep her.

George is a punk, and its kind of annoyin cuz he's an educated man who acts lik he has no true opinion! And when someone makes a statement most of the tyme his responds begins or ends wit the ever popular" IMAGINE THAT" or "JUS IMAGINE".He's very childish! and it gets on my nerves so much. But i think that his annoyin behavior was a part of Ibsen's plan! Ibsen devols his character in this irritatin manner to show y Hedda doesn't luv him! I kno i cudn't b in luv with a man that is childish and jus plain SIMPLE!

YEa George is annoying...but i noticed that by the end of the book, he doesn't say the uh as much. The uhs characterize him as a very indecisive man, but towards the end he knows more what he wants-could it be because Hedda is losing her control???? So George has more control over his decisions and is not as indecisive...cuz towards the end the uhs aren't as present in George as the beginning of the play....

You hit the nail on the head with this one. I'd get pretty annoyed if I were Hedda, I'm surprised she doesn't snap on him at all. He's like a sick puppy who needs verification for everything he says and does.

Tesman is a very comical character. I think his ignorance gives his an innocence that certainly Hedda and many of the other characters do not possess. While Tesman may act unsure of himself, he should know that as the bread winner of the house, he is actually very powerful.

i totally agree with this. he seems like he needs to get a backbone and be man about the things he does, he needs to buck up and whip his life into shape.

I agree also Tesman basically lives in his own reality and dreams of what he wants instead of going out and getting it. He is very loyal to Hedda who manipulates him. Everything he says he tries to make sure he pleases Hedda.
