Hedda

Excuse my language, but Hedda is scandalous. I don't think she likes Tesman at all. Just from Act 1, I can't be completely sure what she wants with him, but I would guess it has something to do with money. She treats him like dirt, in my opinion. She never addresses with terms of endearment that husband and wife normally use, like honey, baby, etc. I just have one question about that... Why in the heck doesn't Tesman or Miss Tesman seem to notice the ill treatment that Hedda gives Tesman and everyone else for that matter? I wonder where this treatment is going to lead in the rest of the book....

Alesiah, idk. I'd prefer that she not be "honey" and "baby"- ing him, that's just desgustingly sweet and she's not that kind of person. i don't think that's all that appealing in real life, but for a strong ruthless woman, that's really not ok. maybe refering to him by name would be nice, but yeah, please not "baby"-ing.

yeah, terms of endearment, or lack there of, doesnt necessarily mean that there is no love in a relationship. however, the way that she treats george in the first act would indicate that hedda doesnt feel as strongly for george as he feels for her

I see what y'all saying, and yeah she could at least refer to him by name. She may not be the type of person that uses terms of endearment, but, to me, that means she shouldn't have gotten married. Terms of endearment don't necessarily show love or indicate lack there of, but she doesn't any signs of loving him, except the marriage. Small terms of endearment is the least she can do, in my opinion, if she's going to treat him so badly. But hey...he's not complaining, and that may be all that matters.

I agree with you, Hedda is scandalous. I kno she's after TEsman's money, because obviously she doesnt love him. But dont oyu find it ironic that she is with Tesman for his money, yet he doesnt have a lot of money. she's always complaining about them being poor, so i think there's more to the story. Maybe she just with him because she needs someone she can manipulate, because it seems like that is her favorite thing to do. Tesman obviously is easy to manipulate, so maybe thats why she did it.

I agree! After I read Act I, I
pictured Hedda as a person controlling a puppet, and Tesman as the puppet. She doesn't even call him by his first name-Zowie!
That's like calling my mom Mrs. Diener, or something. Where is the love? Come on! What love, man!
